On December 17, 2007, Roger Nerdig, Jerry Brown, Geri Kohlhaas, Jeff Knapp, Aaron Greteman, and Brian Sohn attended a presentation “R&D Tax Credits: The Research and Experimental (R & D) Tax Credit”, which was facilitated by Rick Meyer, CPA, MST, MBA. This presentation focused on recent changes in tax law relating to the R&D tax credit. Under these revisions, more industries now qualify for the credit than ever before. In late October and early November, the partners and most professional staff attended “AICPA’s Federal Tax Update” in either Sious Falls, SD, West Des Moines, IA or Mankato, MN. The nationally recognized presenters were Bob Ranweiler, CPA and Andy Biebl, CPA of LarsenAllen. Highlights included a review of recent income tax changes and strategies to maximize tax savings.
On October 23, 2007, Aaron Greteman attended a seminar “Giving Your 50+ Clients a Tax, Estate, Elder Care, and Asset Protection Checkup” which was facilitated by Larry Stein, CPA, JD, LLM. The seminar focused on the unique tax issues facing clients who are over age 50 and considering retirement in the near future.
On October 23, 2007, Jeff Knapp attended a
seminar “Annual Update for Accountants
and Auditors” in Sioux City, IA. The
presenter, Kurt Oestriecher CPA discussed recent
Financial Accounting Standard Board pronouncements
and their application along with the implementation
of the Risk Assessment Statements on Auditing
Standards.
On

Practices and Current Update for Today’s
Compilations and Reviews” in Johnston,
Iowa. The presenter, Rebecca M. Lee, CPA of
Camden, S.C., discussed how and when accounting
standards apply to compilations and reviews,
use of proper documentation and identifying
problem and exposure areas.
In October 2007, Tom Erpelding, Roger Nerdig, Jerry Brown, Geri Kohlhaas, Jeff Knapp, Christie Berte, Sharon, Goche, Aaron Greteman, and Kim Miller attended a seminar “Ethics: How to Find the Answers to Ever-Changing Professional Issues”, which was facilitated by Jimmy Williams, CPA/PFS, MTAX, BVAL. This seminar provided a review of professional ethics as found in one’s personal ethics as well as a review of the AICPA’s Rules of Professional Conduct. This class also fulfilled the annual mandatory ethics education requirement as established by the Iowa Accountancy Examining Board.
